Black and White Portrait Assignment - jgessner
original title: "ava before she brings out the cheese face"
I actually did a "photo shoot" with a tripod on the 17th floor for this. I got to use my special gold-reflector to light her face on certain shots. Here are my two favorites.
This first shot was done by focusing on her face, setting the exposure to 1 second, and then *zooming* during the exposure. Things get a touch blurry, but I love the sense of movement!
And this is the more glamourous shot, very slightly smoothed/blurred in Lightroom. I think the ball prop was key, since it gives you a whole gradient of light.
My cousin's wife, along with another cousin's baby. I should have increased the exposure or used Lightroom to do some artifical "fill light" on her face. I still like the dramatic textures.

My Typical Shoots
Urban Decay: ningerso
The "ice house" on Lake Superior was actually used for transporting sand and gravel from ships without entering the harbor. It only lasted 4 years before the ravages of being unprotected on the lake forced it to shut down. Now 80+ years later it's used as a playground for scuba divers and swimmers.
Unfortunately, I did not notice that water spray had spotted my lens until I came home and reviewed the pictures from the day.
